New Jersey Pony Breeders & Owners, Inc.

The New Jersey Pony Breeders and Owners association  is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1957 to serve and promote the pony industry in the state of New Jersey. The New Jersey Pony Breeders and Owners association  is represented on the NJ Department of Agriculture Equine Advisory Board. NJ-Bred ponies owned by members are eligible to participate in the NJ-Bred Equine Breeders Award Program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.

SECTION TWO

NJPB&O YEAR-END-HIGH-SCORE AWARDS

Eligibility Requirements and Competition Rules

These awards are not part of the New Jersey Bred Non-Racing Breeder’s Awards. Participation in the All-Pony Show by exhibiting, volunteer work, or sponsoring is required in order to receive a Year-End Award.

   
 

I. NON-NJ-BRED MINIATURE DIVISION

A. Rules

1. Owner or lessee must be a current member of NJPB&O, Inc. Membership application and proper fees must be mailed to the Membership Chair before any points from show attended will count for Non-NJ-Bred Miniature High-Score Awards.

2. Animals must be nominated for life Registration on a NJPB&O, Inc. Non-NJ-Bred Nomination Form and the proper fee of $10.00 must be paid. NO Fee is required after the first year’s form and fee have been received. However, the owner must complete and submit a Nomination Form indicating it is an Annual Renewal each successive year that he/she plans on participating in the Awards Program.

3. Each animal must be registered with the American Miniature Horse Registry of Morton, Illinois. A photocopy of the animal’s registration papers must accompany all Life or Transfer Nomination Forms and must be received by the Non-NJ-Bred Miniature High-Score Awards chair before any points from shows attended will count for Non-NJ-Bred Miniature High-Score Awards.

4. The animal may be nominated for any or all of the categories listed below and on the Nomination Form.

5. Any rated or non-rated show will count for points. The NJPB&O All-Pony Show will be double pointed. The point year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 of the following year. Points earned after Sept.30 will count toward the following year providing membership is continued for that ensuing year.

6. Credit will be given for the first six places only, as well as championships (including Grand Champion, Supreme Champion, and Champion of Champions, Reserve Champion (including Reserve Grand Champion) only, regardless of the number of ribbons offered.

7. The animal’s top five (5) shows will count. In a multi-judged class, each judge’s placing will count as one show. There will be six ribbons given as awards in each category, unless entries warrant further subdivision.

8. Owners or lessees must send in their animal’s placing won at shows to the High-Score Chair on NJPB&O, Inc. show Certification Forms. These forms are to be postmarked no later than October 3rd of the award year. Owners and lessees are encouraged to send in their forms as soon as possible after each show.

B. Categories

1. Halter Mares, gelding, stallions per age and sex one class per category.
2. Model Mares, gelding, stallions, per age and sex. One class per category.
3. Open Showmanship Shown in hand
4. Color Solid or Multi colors
5. Pleasure Driving Working and Turnout, singles, pairs or multiples
6. Roadster Driving  
7. Driving Dressage and Reinsmanship Singles, Pairs, or Multiples
8. Performance Obstacles, hunter, jumper

As categories may change from year to year, please check with the division chair for current year categories.

   
 

II. JUNIOR DIVISION

A. Rules

1. Rider/driver/handler must be a current Junior or Family Member of the NJPB&O, Inc. and must not have reached his/her eighteenth birthday as of January 1st of the current competition year

2. Annual Nomination Fee for each Junior/Pony combination is $5.00.

3. If a Junior/Pony combination changes, a new nomination form and fee is required. Points will count for the new combination effective on the postmark date.

4. New Junior/Pony combinations must be nominated with the Junior High Point Chair before points are counted. Points to count as of the Postmark date of nomination.

5. Categories are open to all riding disciplines as well as Reinsmanship and Driving Dressage.

6. No junior may ride, show, and/or drive a stallion.

7. The point year runs from October 1st to September 30th of the award year.

8. Junior/Parent is to maintain records of points won at shows on score sheets provided by the NJPB&O, Inc. and send these to the Junior Awards Chair, postmarked no later than October 3rd of the show year. In a multi-judged class, each judge’s placing counts as one show.

9. Credit will be given for the first six places. Championships of any kind will not accrue points.

10. Any rated or non-rated show will count towards Junior Awards. The NJPB&O All-Pony Show will be Double Pointed. Points to count as follows:

3. Leadline Equitation Open to English/Western junior riders 8 years of age or under who have never shown in any classes other than Leadline
4. Mini Walk/Trot or Jog Equitation Open to English/Western riders 10 years of age or under who have not shown at the canter.
5. Mini Crossrails Equitation Same as above
6. Short Stirrup Equitation on the Flat Open to riders 12 years of age and under who have never shown over fences 2’ or more in height.
7. Short Stirrup Equitation Over Crossrails Same as above.
8. Short Stirrup Equitation over Fences Same as above.
9. Beginner Equitation on the Flat Open to riders 13 yrs. of age and older who have not shown over fences 2’ or more in height
10. Beginner Equitation over Fences Same as above.
11. Open Equitation Flat Open to all riders who have shown over fences 2’or more in height
12. Open Equitation Over Fences Same as above.
13. Costume Open to all.
14. Driving Reinsmanship or Dressage only (Dressage scores from Combined Driving not to count; open to all.
15. Western Equitation Western equitation or riding only; open to all.
16. Ridden Dressage Open to all.
   
 

III. NON-NJ-BRED AND NON-REGISTERED (THEWELL) PONY DIVISION

Ponies only. Minis have their own division (see page 13).

A. Rules

1. Points will accrue only after all fees and required forms have been received by the division chair.

2. Owner or lessee must be a current member of the NJPB&O, Inc. Only the pony, not the rider is nominated. A one-time lifetime nomination fee covers a pony owned by the same person. If the pony is sold and the nomination is to continue in the awards program, a $5.00 transfer fee is due. After the nomination fee is paid, the pony is to be registered in category(ies) each point year in order to remain in the program. Not further money is due for annual nominations.

3. All Non-Jersey Breds who are registered ponies 46 inches and under, or over 46 inches, as well as unregistered (“non-papered”) ponies are eligible for awards.

4. Ponies must be nominated to the chair of this division on NJPB&O forms. Call the chair to obtain them.

5. The point year runs from October 1st to September 30th. Points earned after the cutoff date will count towards the following year.

6. The owner is to keep records of points won at shows on NJPB&O show certification forms. The show certification forms must include the name (NOT signature) of the show secretary. The owner is to send each pony’s scores to the chair. The envelope must be postmarked by October 3 of the award year.

7. The results need not be from the same show. In a multi-judged class, each judge’s placing counts as one show.

8. Any rated or non-rated show will count, with the ALL-PONY SHOW to be DOUBLE POINTED.

9. Credit will be given for the first six places. Championships of any kind will not accrue points.

10. In classes combining horses and ponies, the actual placing of the pony will count.

  12. There will be six ribbons given as awards in each category of the registered and non-registered sections. The pony can be nominated for more than one category.
   
  B. Categories
1. Halter Any open or breed class of ponies or ponies and horses where the animal is judged on conformation
2. Hunter under Saddle Any under saddle class where the animal is judged as a hunter
3. Pony Pleasure Any class where the animal is being judged as a pleasure mount
4. Western Any Western class other than equitation or gymkhana
5. Performance Any class where performance is not tested individually
6. Combined Training A three part test consisting of dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country jumping.
7. Pony Hunter over Fences Any class where the animal is being judged as a hunter over fences
8. Pony Jumper Any class where the animal is being judged as a jumper over fences.
9. Driving Any class where the driving animal is judged. May be for singles, pairs, or multiples. If the combination of multiples changes, the ponies must be renominated.
10. Ridden Dressage Any class where the animal is judged on performance of a dressage test.
   
 

IV. ADULT DIVISION

A. Rules

1. Rider/driver/handler must be a current member of the NJPB&O, Inc. and must have reached his/her eighteenth birthday as of January 1st of the current competition year
